Terry Pettit, also known as T.H., of Fort Collins, Colorado was 65 years old when he went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus, surrounded by his closest loved ones, and in peace on Tuesday June 9th, 2020.
Terry was born to Floyd and Thelma Pettit in Benkelman, Nebraska on February 26, 1955. He grew up in Benkelman, tending to matters of the farm and completing his education. After graduating from Benkelman High School in 1973, Terry attended the University of Nebraska having earned a Regent’s Scholarship from the University. Terry graduated from Kearney State College obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice. Terry joined the Kearney Police Department where he was an excellent officer. He displayed extreme proficiency in firearms, becoming one of the top competitive shooters in the state. Terry was wed to Jeanne Sitzman of Culbertson, Nebraska in 1977. They moved to Loveland, Colorado in 1980 and later had two sons, Brian and Zachary. Terry went on to work at the local Steel and Wire company and then spent 29 years at the US Postal Service in Fort Collins, working as a mail carrier.
Terry had an infectious laugh, quick wit and endearing humor. He loved to poke fun and get into arguments with his friends. He was always wanting to talk about the latest news and attempt to solve the worlds problems. His knowledge of a vast range of information was reflective of his desire to learn and his humble genius. He was a fantastic father, taking time to share his hobbies and enjoyments with his sons. He went on to become a granddad and enjoyed this role very much. He found ways to introduce his grandchildren to mischief and he took great pride in doing so. He made the trip back to Benkelman to share his childhood town with his family and through the years, his grandchildren enjoyed riding in tractors and on 4-wheelers, or fixing fence and shooting targets.
Terry was a friend to everyone he met. From the auto mechanic to the cashier at the grocery store, Terry had a way of creating friendships. He was very involved in numerous clubs and groups such as the Colorado High Country Cruisers, the Colorado Rifle Club, various shooting ranges, and off-roading groups. He was recognized and received many accomplishments in the hobbies he partook in.
Terry will be deeply and profoundly missed. He is survived by his sons Brian Pettit (wife Deena) of Loveland Colorado, and Zachary Pettit (wife Nicole) of Johnstown Colorado, his grandchildren - David 19, Jonathan 17, Kellan 15, Ella 13, Elias 10 and Connor 1, his “bestest buddy” Donna Wagner of Severance, Colorado, his childhood and lifelong friend John Gerdes of Arlington, TX, and his brother David Pettit (wife Julie) of Estacada Oregon.
