Stewart James Rourke, “Jim”, passed away surrounded by his family on December 30th, 2019 in Loveland, Colorado. He was 72 years old. Jim was born in Denver, Colorado on August 16th, 1947. Growing up in an Air Force family, he lived in several foreign countries to include Scotland, Germany, and Puerto Rico. He attended Ramey High School on Ramey Air Force Base in Puerto Rico where he met the love of his life, Carlotta “Charlie” McCants in 1962. He fondly recalled that their first date was initiated by Charlie, who invited him to the Sadie Hawkins Dance. Jim and Charlie married on August 31st, 1968 in Boulder, Colorado. They have two sons, Michael and Steven, of whom they have always been very proud. Jim took his education very seriously. He attended the University of Colorado for his B.A. in Sociology with a minor in Political Science. After an internship with NASA in Washington, D.C., Jim began a career with the United States Department of Labor. Jim and Charlie briefly moved their family to California after he was awarded a prestigious fellowship which allowed him to obtain a master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Southern California. Jim earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of Denver while remaining employed full-time and coaching Michael’s and Steven’s little league sports teams. He worked many years for White & Steel among other firms, including his own. Jim retired from the practice of law in 2012. Jim and Charlie became grandparents in 2007 and have since been blessed with 4 grandchildren—Jack, Connor, Wyatt, and Charlotte. Jim adored his family and passed along unending wisdom, love, and humor. He was an avid golfer and fisherman and enjoyed spending time with Charlie and family at their cabin in Estes Park. He is survived by his wife of 51 ½ years, Carlotta Rourke (McCants), and two sons, Michael J. Rourke (Kimberly Corban Rourke) and Steven A. Rourke (Eric Brown). A celebration of Jim’s fulfilling life is planned for Thursday, January 16th at 1:00 pm at the Saddleback Golf Club in Firestone, Colorado. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Cancer Society or Pathways Hospice of Larimer County.
