The Lord called Glenn home on August 7, 2018. Glenn left this world from Collinwood Memory Care center with a confused mind due to Alzheimers and woke up in Heaven with a clear mind. He was born January 8, 1939 in Newton, KS to Edward and Minnie Rutschman Harms. Glenn grew up in the farming community of Eldorado, KS and Whitewater, KS as well as worked on the Ransom Ranch in Claude, TX.
When he attended a youth retreat at the age of 14, Glenn accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior. His life forever changed.
After graduating from Maise High School in Maise, KS, he attended summer school at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, IL.
Glenn met the love of his life, Helen Janzen, in Newton, KS at a Youth for Christ meeting in 1958. Glenn and Helen were married February 20, 1959 in Newton. In the following years, Glenn and Helen were blessed with a son and a daughter. They worked at Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch in Amarillo, TX as dorm parents. While there, Glenn felt the Lord calling him to preach. He enrolled at Western Bible Institute in Morrison, CO and received his bachelor’s degree in Pastoral Studies.
After graduating in 1969, Glenn and his family moved to Chadron, NE to pastor Calvary Baptist Church. In 1971 the Lord was tugging at his heart to plant a church in Loveland, CO. He and his family moved there and founded Foothills Baptist Church on September 19, 1971 with the help of South Sheridan Baptist Church in Denver, CO. He pastored there for 28 years resigning in 1999 due to health issues. While pastoring in Loveland, he earned his doctorate degree in Theology by correspondence from Andersonville Baptist Seminary in Georgia. He continued preaching for friends over 10 more years.
Glenn and Helen enjoyed spending winters in Arizona, visiting good friends and had fun gold prospecting as a hobby. He also loved playing his guitar, exercising, especially doing his jumping jacks! Singing was also something he really took part in. Glenn is now singing in Heaven with family and friends who have gone on before him.
Glenn is survived by his wife, Helen, brother, Wayne (Marie) Harms, two children, David (Ann) Harms, Debbie (Rick) Davis, grandkids, AnnaMae (Nathan) Shane, Ellie (Garret) Youngson, Jonathan Harms in the Navy, Rebekah Davis, Emily Davis, three great grandsons, Josiah, Jackson and Eli and beloved nieces and nephews. Preceding Glenn in death were his parents and sister, Viola Mae.
A Celebration of Life service will be held August 14, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at Viegut Funeral Home, 1616 N. Lincoln Ave. in Loveland, CO with interment following at Lakeside Cemetery. A reception will be held at the Viegut Reception Center following interment.
