MaryAnn Shallenberg

August 8, 1937 ~ September 28, 2019 (age 82)

MaryAnn (Vagts) Shallenberg, 82, of Windsor, CO passed peacefully into the arms of our Lord on Saturday morning, September 28, 2019.

Born to Henry and Clara Vagts, MaryAnn was raised on a farm near Pleasant Dale, NE. She loved the farm life with her family and often reminisced about milking the cows, working side-by-side with her siblings and enjoying the horses.  It was a good life of honest, hard work and simple blessings.  These are values that MaryAnn carried with her throughout her life.

MaryAnn attended Wesleyan University in Lincoln, NE and spent her early 20’s teaching 2nd and 3rd grade elementary classes in Grafton, NE.  Soon, this beautiful young teacher caught the eye of Don Shallenberg of Grafton, NE.  They were married in August of 1960.  Theirs was an active household with three sons born between 1963 and 1970.  MaryAnn coordinated family camping trips, school schedules and kept an immaculate household. No small feat with three boys! Throughout her life, she was very proud of her sons, all graduates of the University of Nebraska, Lincoln and each pursuing successful careers in their chosen field.  She also supported Don’s career with the gas utility company moving to various Nebraska locations including Aurora, Plattsmouth, Columbus, Norfolk and Lincoln.

MaryAnn is predeceased by her parents.  She is survived by her husband Don; sons Mike Shallenberg (Michele) of Arlington, VA, John Shallenberg (Lisa) and their children Jack and Brooklynn of Windsor, CO and Steve Shallenberg (Dezel) and their children Vaughn and Kendall of Ft. Collins, CO.  In addition, her siblings: Ivan Vagts of Denton, NE and Art Vagts of Kearney, NE and Leola Duffy of Superior, NE.

The family would like to thank the staff of Seven Lakes Memory Care and Halcyon Hospice for the kind and skilled care provided to MaryAnn.
