Martha Lou Hutchens

January 22, 1942 ~ June 4, 2019 (age 77)

Martha was born in Mount Vernon, IL to Paul N Jolly and Stella A. Hayes Jolly. As a child she lived in Mount Vernon, IL, Springer, NM, Cimarron, NM, Las Vegas, NM, Grand Junction, CO and Denver, CO.

In 1958 when she lived in Denver and attending East High School she went to a Winter BSU (Christian Challenge) Retreat where she met the love of her life Andy Hutchens. They played a game called “freeze out” in the car on the way home. On Friday February 13, 1959 her and Andy went on their first date to a movie Wind Jammers and had Pizza at Pizza Oven.

They got engaged in July of 1959 and waited until Thanksgiving to get her ring and meet Andy’s family who lived in Texas. They were married the following year on June 18, 1960, nine days after graduating from East High School.

This union led to 4 children. James being born the following year in 1961, Sherry in 1964, Karla in 1967 and Mark in 1971.

In 1962 Andy’s mother passed away and Martha was the caregiver for his father and disabled brother. Five months after his mother passed away, Andy’s father passed away. At that time they had to put Andy’s disable brother in a State run home because they were expecting their second child.

In 1966 Andy surrendered to the ministry after promising her he would never do that. In 1967 after their 3rd child was born they moved to Phoenix, AZ. to a house that was roach infested and had to be fumigated. In 1969 Andy accepted a church and she became a preacher's wife. In 1973 Andy graduated from Grand Canyon College and accepted a church in Grand Junction, CO.

While in Grand Junction she taught Vacation Bible School for the Association. Phil Card flew a small plane from Denver, picked her up in Grand Junction and flew her to Montrose, Co to teach a Vacation Bible School class. This was her first plane ride. In 1976 they moved to Clifton, CO to be closer to the church. In 1984 they moved to Wellington, CO for Andy to preach for a mission church. And then moved to Fort Collins, CO where they bought a modular.

In 1988, they joined Southside Baptist Church and Martha became the WMU (Women’s Missionary Union) director for the Long’s Peak Association for many years, taught Sunday School and loved to sing specials and in the choir. She loved decorating for the Senior Adult Sunday School parties and making them Homemade Ice Cream.

In, 2006 they moved to Loveland and bought a home. Martha’s favorite hobbies included cooking, sewing, traveling with family and playing cards with friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, 1 Son-in-Law (Bill Farner) and 1 Grand Child Brittany Pritchard.
