Mr. Marion Calvin Karnes “Pete” died on September 6, 2019 in Loveland, Colorado at the age of 88.
Marion is survived by his wife, Peggy Jo Karnes, children, Kenneth/Janice Karnes, Lynda/Steve Hearn, Gary/Janie Karnes, James/Millie Karnes, Michele/David Ramirez, all of California, Richard McGrath/Val Deskins of Ohio. Son Timothy Karnes preceded him in death. He also has seven grandchildren and eleven great-grand children.
Marion was born on November 4, 1930 in Lyman, Nebraska to Orvel and Angus (Gleason) Karnes. He graduated from UCLA in 1960 with a degree in engineering and mathematics. After moving to the San Bernardino, CA area Marion began working for the California Department of Transportation as an electrical engineer and remained there for 41 years. He also worked for the IBEW for 37 years as a teacher of mathematics and electricity. He also taught classes and preached at the Church of Christ. His children remember him as a driven and loving father who encouraged them to pursue their goals.
Marion was accomplished at designing and working with wood. He built many different furniture and cabinet pieces. He also enjoyed tying fishing flies and making unique jewelry pieces. He was a very generous man who loved to present his jewelry works as gifts to many people. He learned to pilot planes at an early age and enjoyed flying for many years. He especially enjoyed teaching children about mathematics and helping them realize that they could excel. He was very passionate in his devotion and was an active and dedicated member of the Church of Christ.
A funeral is scheduled for Thursday, September 12, 2019. A viewing will be held from 9:00am to 10:00am at The Loveland Church of Christ at 4100 South Taft, Loveland, CO, with the service to begin at 10:00am and a with a reception to follow at the church. A graveside ceremony will be held at 1:00pm at the Resthaven Memorial Gardens at 8426 S. HWY 287, Fort Collins, CO. Ministers Ron Lauterbach and Marty Trujillo will officiate the ceremony.
