James “Jim” Gerald Howell, age 66, formerly of Cañon City, Colorado, passed away suddenly January 17, 2019, in Johnstown, Colorado.
Jim was born to Gerald and Rose “Dolly” (Rigirozzi) Howell on June 15, 1952 in Pueblo, Colorado. He graduated from Pueblo East High School and received his degree in Criminal Justice from Metropolitan State University in Denver, Colorado.
He was united in marriage to Lori (Kuntz) Howell in 1984.
Jim had a decorated law enforcement career that spanned more than 40 years. He was a detective and Lieutenant with the Edgewater Police Department, a Fraud Investigator for the State of Arizona Auditor General’s Office, and the Chief Investigator for the 11th Judicial District in Cañon City for 25 years until he retired in 2016. Following his retirement, he and his wife relocated to Northern Colorado in order to be closer to his son’s family. He was also able to pursue his passions of spending mornings at the gun range, reloading ammunition, collecting rare bourbon, and traveling to Texas to visit his daughter and son-in-law.
His life will be cherished by his loving wife of 34 years, daughter Diandra (Damian) Green of Austin, Texas, son Adam (Tana) Howell of Fort Collins, brother John (Kim) Howell of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, sister Marietta (Paul) Dodson of Aurora, mother-in-law Celestina Kuntz of Arvada, beloved “fur” granddaughters Aryia and Sophie, and faithful companion Abbey. He will also be missed by his brothers and sisters-in-laws, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at 1:30 PM at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church in Windsor, Colorado. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Austin Pets Alive! at austinpetsalive.org.
