George Keith Eberhardt, was born October 30, 1926 in Eaton Colorado. He was born again on May 23, 2018. He is survived by two sisters Donna Olson and June Maupin of Brush Colorado, four children Catherine (Eberhardt) Vigil, Lawrence Keith Eberhardt of Sugar Hill Georgia, Matthew Nicholas Eberhardt, and John Hurd. He was preceded in death by his wife of 30 years Kathleen Eberhardt. His large and loving extended family includes 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a devoted circle of friends.
A retired civil engineer, he was the first member of his family to attend college. During his career, he was a project manager on two of the largest engineering projects of the 20th century the Pan American Highway and the Aleyska Pipeline, and retired from the State of Colorado Water Conservancy Board. Known to all as “Keith”, he was a World War II Navy Veteran, and a proud alumni of University of Colorado. He loved football and almost never missed a Buffalos game! An inveterate storyteller and jokester, his ready smile and wit were always on display. His life spanned nearly a century, and after his retirement he became a wise and trusted confidante to many. An eternal optimist, he believed strongly in the importance of family, hard work and the value of education. In his later years, he became a champion for Alzheimer’s research after his wife Kathleen passed away from early onset of the disease. Never one to seek notoriety, he lived simply and through his actions has left us, his family and friends, a strong legacy and firm foundation of love and wisdom to sustain us, and one that we must now carry on without him to honor his memory.
