At 9:13am on Sunday October 7, 2018, Jesus reached His hand down and escorted Eugene “Gene” Van Tress Jr. up to heaven with Him for eternity. Gene was born on December 11, 1924 in Kansas City, Kansas to Leah T. Bennett and Eugene Van Tress Sr. He had an older sister Jeanne and a younger brother Jerry.
After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the Army and served as a paratrooper in the 11th Division Airborne during WWII.
He met Joyce Herman in 1958 at a YWCA dance and it was love at first sight. They were married in 1959 and together they have two children Tenley (Brandon) Roeder and Curt (Lara) Van Tress; five grandchildren and two grandson-in-laws Sheena (Chad) Crowe, Tanis (Steve) Lauer, Davin Roeder, Mariah Van Tress and Alex Van Tress; and two great-grandchildren Carter and Emry Crowe.
He retired from the Central Intelligence Agency after working as an electronic specialist for 27 years.
Gene spent his entire life loving Jesus, his family and golf. One of his favorite activities was traveling the country or simply camping in Loveland or RMNP with his kids and grand-kids in their travel trailers. His children have fond memories of the many miles traveled visiting almost every state and some of Canada with their family dog, Twiggy, sitting in-between them in a large cage in the backseat of the car.
He will forever be remembered for his service to others as he was always giving his time, talents, love and treasure to loved ones, friends, his church and community.
Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. at Viegut Funeral Home on Saturday, October 13, 2018. Memorial contributions can be made to the Good Shepherd Church - Youth Department - 3429 Monroe Avenue, Loveland.
