Elenora (Ellie) Mae Schlenker, age 79 of Loveland passed away on April 22, 2018 at home after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Ellie was born January 11, 1939 in Garrison, North Dakota to Jake and Ella Flath. She married Dennis Schlenker on January 2, 1957. The young couple moved to Ft. Riley, Kansas due to Dennis being in the army. They then moved to Sparta, Wisconsin where their first two children were born, Tommy and Susan. After his time in the service they moved back home to North Dakota where their third child Randy was born. In 1962 they moved to California were their fourth child Kim was born.
Ellie was a wonderful stay at home mom and did many things with her children. Frequent trips to the beach and camping with family and friends were among the favorites. In 1972 the family moved to Berthoud, Colorado where she worked at Ivy Stockwell Elementary School in the cafeteria. This was back when all the school lunches were actually made from scratch! In 1980 Dennis and Ellie opened their business Aubry’s Automotive in Longmont. Ellie worked in the office and was the parts runner for many years. Dennis and Ellie enjoyed polka dancing in their younger years. Her love of cooking, baking and making traditional German dishes were loved by family and many friends over the years. She was an excellent teacher to her children and grandchildren in the ways of canning and most of all the family favorite making sauerkraut. After running a very successful business for many years she enjoyed her favorite job of all being a grandma of nine and a great grandma of twenty-one.
Ellie is survived by her husband Dennis of 61 years. Children Tommy of Lakewood, Randy (Tammi) of Loveland and Kim (Steve) Gogert of Berthoud. Grandchildren Raymond Randall (Kim); Amy Allen, Tommy (Brandi) Schlenker, Justin (Kelly) Schlenker, Wade (Lacy) Schlenker, Brian (Kate) Schlenker, Krista (Cassidy) Galbraith, Kendra (Cole) Wilsey and Hanna Abromski. Also survived by 1 sister, 4 brothers and many nieces and nephews.
Ellie is preceded in death by a daughter Susan, her parents, a brother Archie, a sister Marlene and two sisters-in-law and five brothers-in-law.
The Celebration of Life will be held Saturday May 26th from 1:00 to 4:00 PM at the Berthoud Community Center located at 248 Welch Avenue in Berthoud. In lieu of flowers Ellie asked that people please donate to the Pathways Hospice in Ft. Collins, Colorado.
