Charles Dale Hannah (Chuck) of Loveland passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, January 19, 2020. He was born Charles Dale Byrd in Englewood, Colorado on January 6, 1936. After his father died in WWII he and his siblings were placed into an orphanage. Although he was adopted, it lasted briefly and he lived in various foster homes in Larimer County. He attended Cache La Poudre high school until he was 17, when he enlisted in the Army and served in Korea until armistice.
He married Doris Delehoy on September 28, 1957 in Fort Collins. The Delehoy family lovingly welcomed him and gave him a family he’d never had. He and Doris were married 59 years when she preceded him into heaven in January, 2016. He coached little league baseball for many years, loved going to Poudre High School football games and was a friend to many.
He retired as the Operations Manager of ELCO Water District in 2001 after 30 years. In 1994 the ELCO Board of Directors acknowledged him for designing and installing improvements to the water system. They named it the “Hannah Plan”. The modifications that Chuck developed was instrumental in improving the service and water quality to ELCO’s customers, increased fire protection supply and saved the district from having to replace costly facilities.
To see a twinkle in his eye, you just had to mention one of the following: fishing, hunting, growing tomatoes or the Broncos. He caught that “big one” last summer on a fishing trip with his son, Sammy, and they went on his last hunting trip in November.
Chuck is survived by three children: Deborah (Brian) Allison of Loveland, Sammy (Kelly) Hannah of Pueblo, and Wil Hannah. 6 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild who all knew him as Papa. His Delehoy “brothers and sisters”: Billy, Joann and Jack Tamlin and Betty Delehoy along with 3 generations of nieces and nephews who know him as Uncle-Papa. He was preceded in death by his wife Doris and granddaughter, Dorianne (Dodi).
A celebration of his life will be held Sunday, March 1st at Club Tico, 1599 City Park Drive, Fort Collins from 1-3pm. All are invited to attend.
