Alvin Kenneth Mielke

June 2, 1923 ~ February 25, 2019 (age 95)

Alvin Kenneth Mielke, 95, of Loveland, Colorado, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on February 25, 2019 at his home in Loveland. Alvin was born in Brown County, Minnesota to Benjamin and Mary Mielke on June 2, 1923. He married Gladys Marie Meyer on February 1, 1953 in Springfield, Minnesota.

Al worked as an automobile mechanic for Buetz Motors for many years in Mankato, Minnesota before moving his family to Loveland, Colorado in 1979. He then worked as a mechanic for the Chrysler Dealership in Loveland until he retired. He was a veteran of World War II and was stationed in the Philippines during his service in the Army. He enjoyed attending church throughout his life including the Lutheran Churches in Mankato and Loveland including Resurrection Fellowship of Loveland for many years. He volunteered as a delivery driver for the Loveland Meals on Wheel for over 20 years. He was a dedicated gardener growing a large vegetable garden every year. He took great pleasure in spending time with family. Al was a devoted fan of his favorite football and baseball teams. He was also an avid fisherman and loved spending time in the outdoors of Colorado and Minnesota. Other interests he enjoyed included hiking, bowling and playing horseshoes.

Al is preceded in death by his parents Benjamin and Mary Mielke, his brothers Vincent O. Mielke and Herbert Mielke, sisters Mildred A. Mielke Lindstrand, Gertrude Mielke Glimsdahl and Bernice Mielke Mullenbach, and son-in-law Harvey Fortney.

Al is survived by his wife Gladys Marie Mielke; brother Donald H. Mielke; daughter Dianne Kay Mielke; sons Mark Alvin Mielke, Steven Lee Mielke (Hope) and Craig Joel Mielke; grandchildren Jonathan Mielke, Stacey Fortney Teschendorf (Rick), Evelyn Fortney Kahl (Jeffrey) and Chad Fortney; as well as eleven great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.

Al Mielke's quiet and gentle spirit will be greatly missed by his wife and family. Long may his memory live in our hearts until we see him again on that great and glorious day in heaven with our Lord Jesus.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at Viegut Funeral Home with the Rev. Vivian Tillotson officiating.
